A Legacy of Tradition, Community, and Excellence
Sparrows Point Country Club was established in 1925, born from a vision to provide a place of recreation and camaraderie for the employees and families of Bethlehem Steel. Originally housed in a modest farmhouse overlooking Jones Creek, the club served as a much-needed retreat from the demands of the steel industry—a welcoming gathering place where colleagues became friends, families came together, and lasting memories were made. From the outset, the club became an integral part of the region's social fabric, offering not only recreational opportunities but also a sense of belonging and community pride.
In 1952, amid a period of economic growth and transformation, Sparrows Point Country Club relocated to its present location on Wise Avenue in Dundalk, Maryland. The new 271-acre property—graced by panoramic views of Bear Creek on the Chesapeake Bay—provided an ideal setting for the club's continued evolution. The renowned golf course architect William Gordon was commissioned to design the first nine holes, and over the ensuing years, the course was expanded to a 27-hole championship layout, completed in 1961. This expansion marked a pivotal chapter in the club's history, mirroring the broader postwar prosperity and enthusiasm for the game of golf.
For more than three decades, the club flourished under the stewardship of its members. During this time, Sparrows Point Country Club developed a reputation for excellence in golf, hospitality, and community engagement. Generations of families have passed through its doors, contributing to a vibrant culture that celebrates both tradition and progress.
In 2021, Sparrows Point Country Club entered a new era under the ownership and leadership of CRD Golf, LLC. With a deep respect for the club's storied past, CRD Golf is committed to preserving its legacy while embracing the opportunities of the future. Their vision includes thoughtful enhancements to the club's amenities, infrastructure, and overall member experience—ensuring that Sparrows Point Country Club continues to thrive for generations to come.
A significant milestone in this continued evolution came in 2025 with the creation of The Cove at Sparrows Point Country Club, a thoughtfully designed residential community developed by Beazer Homes. Nestled within the club's grounds and situated along portions of the original golf course, The Cove introduces a new standard for waterfront living. This vibrant new neighborhood brings together high-quality homes, scenic views, and direct access to the club's amenities—strengthening the connection between lifestyle, leisure, and community. The integration of The Cove represents not only a reimagining of select golf holes but also a strategic and sustainable step toward enhancing the long-term vitality of Sparrows Point Country Club.
Today, nearly a century after its founding, Sparrows Point Country Club remains a pillar of the community and a premier destination for championship golf, resort-style amenities, and meaningful social connection. It stands as a testament to the enduring values of fellowship, tradition, and excellence—values that have defined the club for 100 years and will continue to guide its future.
